Original story follows.

Look out, nerds, because the official trailer for Stranger Things season 5 has been leaked online by none other than Netflix.

With the immensely popular show's final season due to premiere on November 26, Netflix was set to unveil one last look at Stranger Things 5 today (October 30) before launch day. Indeed, the streaming titan confirmed as much on social media yesterday, so fans have been preparing themselves accordingly for its arrival.

Unfortunately, a Netflix employee doesn't seem to have gotten the memo about when the final trailer should go live, because the hotly anticipated two-minute teaser was accidentally shared online hours before its world premiere.

Surprising no-one, the footage was swiftly pulled offline by the world's best streaming service. Some eagle-eyed fans, though, quickly noticed it had gone live ahead of schedule and moved to grab screenshots and clips of said trailer. Some individuals were even able to download the teaser in its entirety. Predictably, social media is now awash with people posting screengrabs and footage from the trailer for the upcoming fifth season of Stranger Thing.

I won't be sharing any picture- or video-based content from the teaser here. I'd also advise anyone wanting to watch the trailer in all its HD / 4K glory to stay off X/Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, and other forums to wait until season 5's latest round of footage is officially released.

That said, there is a very specific moment in one of the best Netflix shows' last-ever trailer that's dominating fan discussions in the wake of the trailer leak. I am going to briefly touch on this topic after the image below so, be advised: huge spoilers follow for Stranger Things season 5's official trailer.

Things don't look good for Will Byers in season 5's final trailer... (Image credit: Netflix)

The scene in question is the final one we see in the trailer, and it teases a heart-stopping encounter between Will Byers and Stranger Things' Big Bad in Vecna. As the latter holds a terrified Will aloft using his telekinetic powers, Vecna tells Will he's going to help Vecna "one last time" before the screen ominously cuts to black.

Immediately, large section of the show fanbase have jumped on the 'Will is going to die' bandwagon, but I don't believe this'll be the case. Of course, it's unclear which episode this scene is taken from, but the prevailing theory among viewers is that this trailer's footage is all taken from season 5's first volume, which comprises its first four episodes.

If true, I wouldn't be shocked if season 5 part 1 ends on a cliff-hanger, with this scene being the final one we see before volume 1's final end credits sequence rolls. At the very least, that would mean Will makes it to volume 2 but, given his importance to the wider story, I'd be stunned if he's killed off by Vecna in part 1 or early on in its follow-up volume.

It won't be long until we see if I'm right or not. Stranger Things season 5 volume 1 is set to be released on November 26, so the countdown is well and truly on for the smash hit series' return.

Before its official trailer is formally unveiled by Netflix and ahead of part 1's arrival next month, rewatch the first trailer for Stranger Things season 5.
